WCPA provides school and commercial-based services, as well as services for individuals and families. Please review the information below, and contact us with any questions that you have about any of our comprehensive services.

Comprehensive School Services:

All of our school based services are aimed at changing school climate by promoting safety, civility and respect. We specialize in tailoring our services to meet each school's specific needs. Below are some of the services that we frequently provide within school systems.

. Care Team Training and Consultation
Care Teams are one of the most effective methods for responding to schools’ needs. A Care Team is a group composed of diverse school professionals, which intervenes in problematic school situations. When an at-risk student is referred to the Care Team, team members gather information about the situation, plan and implement appropriate interventions, and continue monitoring the circumstances, if necessary. The WCPA consultant first trains the team members, then functions as a leader and professional resource for the group.

. On-Site, Educational Consultation
An on-site consultant functions as school counselor or supplements a school’s existing counseling staff, and is usually purchased for a block of time each week. The consultant’s tasks often include brief counseling with students, communication with families, and supporting faculty.

. Presentations and Inservices
We frequently provide inservice education for school professionals. Presentations on a variety of issues are available, and length can vary from one hour to full-day workshops. Frequently requested topics include: Dealing with difficult parents, Understanding ADHD, Diminishing professional stress, and Improving parent-teacher conferences. . Principal’s Consultation Groups
Principals meet monthly, in small groups, led by a WCPA consultant. In group, principals present individual cases about students, families, staff, or policy, share support, and resolve problems that group members are having within their schools. All information shared is strictly confidential.

. Case Consultation
Case consultation is available, when a school wants assistance with decision making about a particular student. The consultant can observe the student, meet with the teachers involved and/or the student’s family, and provide specific recommendations about classroom interventions and actions that parents can take regarding assessment and/or treatment.

. Substance Abuse Services
Prevention services, at-risk groups and recovery groups can be facilitated in school. Individual assessment and a treatment program are available in the office. Drug testing is available, on an individual basis or as part of a systematic random testing program in a school.

. Social Skills Training Groups
WCPA therapists work with groups of at-risk students, who need help to learn appropriate social skills and behaviors. Students are grouped by age, and meet weekly, usually for 4-8 weeks. During group, specific skills are taught, such as: basic social skills and manners, conflict resolution, anger management, making friends, and coping skills.

. Risk Assessment
Schools concerned about the potential for dangerous behavior by a particular student can refer that student for a comprehensive risk assessment. With parental permission, the student and his or her family is interviewed, the teacher or relevant school professional is contacted, and a battery of psychological testing is performed. A written report is then provided to the school, outlining the therapist’s impressions.

For Individuals and Families:

. Therapy
Individual therapy for persons of any age, play therapy for young children, family therapy and marital therapy are available. WCPA therapists include professionals with varied backgrounds, experiences and specialties.
